The Uttar Pradesh Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement Portal, commonly known as the Saksham portal, has opened registration for the UP Scholarship 2026 27 academic session. This is one of the largest state run scholarship programmes in the country, supporting lakhs of students every year across Pre Matric and Post Matric levels of education. The scheme is jointly administered by the Directorate of Social Welfare, the Backward Class Welfare Department and the Minority Welfare Department, depending on the category of the applicant.

Students belonging to General, Other Backward Class, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Minority communities who are studying in a recognised school, college or university located in Uttar Pradesh, and whose institution is registered on the scholarship portal, can apply online. Students from Uttar Pradesh who are studying outside the state can also apply in certain cases, provided they belong to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or General category and are enrolled in a government or government aided institution in that other state.

About the Scheme

The scholarship is designed to reduce the financial burden of education on economically weaker families by reimbursing tuition fees and providing a maintenance allowance directly into the student's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer. Both Fresh applicants, meaning students applying for the very first time, and Renewal applicants, meaning students who received the scholarship last year and are continuing into the next class or semester, need to complete the process every academic year.

Types of Scholarship Covered

  • Pre Matric Scholarship for students studying in Class 9 and Class 10
  • Post Matric Scholarship for students studying in Class 11 and Class 12, commonly referred to as the Intermediate stage
  • Post Matric Scholarship for students enrolled in Diploma, Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Professional and Vocational courses

Income Eligibility Criteria

The annual family income of the applicant must fall within the limit prescribed for their category and scholarship level. Based on the scheme guidelines for the current cycle, the broad income limits are as follows.

  • Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and General category students applying for the Post Matric scholarship must have an annual family income of up to Rupees 2.5 Lakh
  • Other Backward Class category students must have an annual family income of up to Rupees 2 Lakh
  • Pre Matric applicants are assessed against a separate, generally lower income threshold as defined in the official scheme guidelines

Since income limits and category wise slabs are revised from time to time, applicants should always confirm the exact figure applicable to them on the official portal before submitting their form.

Documents Required

  • Aadhaar card linked to an active bank account for Direct Benefit Transfer
  • Income certificate issued by the competent authority
  • Caste certificate for OBC, SC and ST applicants
  • Domicile or residence certificate of Uttar Pradesh
  • Previous year marksheet or admission proof for the current class or course
  • Bank passbook copy showing account number and IFSC code
  • Passport size photograph as specified by the portal

How to Apply Online

  1. Visit the official Saksham portal at scholarship.up.gov.in
  2. If applying for the first time, complete One Time Registration by entering basic personal and institutional details
  3. Log in using the registration number and password generated during registration
  4. Select Fresh application if applying for the first time, or Renewal application if you received the scholarship in the previous academic year
  5. Fill in personal, academic, income and bank account details carefully
  6. Upload all required documents in the specified format and file size
  7. Submit the form online and download or print the final application
  8. Submit the signed printout along with self attested copies of documents to your school or college within the deadline set by the institution

Scholarship Amount

The scholarship and fee reimbursement amount is not a single fixed figure. It depends on the course the student is enrolled in, the category of the applicant, and whether the student is a hosteller or a day scholar, as defined in the official scheme rates published on the portal. Students should check the exact amount applicable to their specific class and category on the official website before applying.

Important Note

There is no application fee for UP Scholarship. Application windows open in separate phases for different classes and categories, and Fresh and Renewal applicants may also have different deadlines within the same phase, so students should check the date relevant to their own class and application type rather than assuming a single common deadline. All dates mentioned in this article are based on currently available information and may be revised by the department. NaukariGPT provides curated information only. Please verify every detail on the official Saksham portal before applying.
